THE latest community news from Llanelltyd
A pig-racing night at Llanelltyd Village Hall raised £267.50 to help struggling farmers.
Farming charity RABI’s Merionethshire committee hosted the battery-operated pig racing event as their first fund-raiser of 2018.
The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution is a welfare charity which supports farmers and farmworkers of all ages, giving out grants of around £2 million each year in Wales and England. Last year, they paid out grants of around £69,000 to 40 Welsh working farmers and their families. Much of the charity’s funding comes from public donations, events arranged by county committees and support from businesses and community groups.
RABI regional manager for Wales Linda Jones, said: “I would like to thank our volunteers in Merionethshire, including George Workman and his team of helpers, for staging such a tremendous night.
“If you work in farming and need our help please be brave, pick up the phone and speak to a member of our welfare team in complete confidence.”
RABI volunteer and Merionethshire county committee member Bethan Roberts added: “We are extremely grateful to local businesses for supporting this event, including David Vaughan & Co Insurance Brokers, Walter Lloyd Jones Land & Estate Agents, Popty’r Dref, T H Roberts Coffee Shop and Mair Rees, our chair in Merionethshire.”
