Lunch Club

MEMBERS of the Llanfair and Cellan Lunch Club recently enjoyed a visit to Riverbank Café and Farmshop, near Tregaron.

They enjoyed the trip and afternoon tea.

Thanksgiving Service

A THANKSGIVING service was held at Capel Mair, with the service being taken by guest preacher Parch Alun Wyn Dafis, Brondeifi Unitarian Chapel Minister, from Lampeter.

Short Mat Bowls

THE village hall has remained the venue for short mat bowls every Wednesday evening.

Recently, nine Llanfair bowlers travelled to Llangeitho to play a competitive match with players from the club in the village.

The game was lost, as the Llanfair players struggled to adjust to the greater length of the Llangeitho mats.

The Llanfair players were Al Herring, Jean Entwistle, Sally Leech, Alan Leech, Colin Adams, Aerwen Griffiths, Eleri Davies, Simon Packer and Dai Jones.

WI Meeting

THE September WI members meeting in the hall was immediately followed by an open meeting featuring a talk by Lyn Ebenezer on ‘Operation Julie’.

He reminded a large audience of the studies he had undertaken on this major police drug investigation of the 1970’s and the book he had produced on the subject.

He focused on the locations within Ceredigion used by the manufacturers of the illegal drug LSD, the role of undercover surveillance police officers and the eventual trial of the people involved in both the manufacture and distribution of what some people regarded as a fashionable drug at that time.

First World War talk

ON Friday, 20 October, at 7.30pm there will be an open meeting on a theme associated with the First World War.

Author and artist David Kelsall, will give a talk entitled ‘A Territorial Battalion on the Western Front, 1914-18’.

The speaker has written the books The Dark Cloud and Stockport Lads Together.

Anyone is welcome to attend, in Llanfair Hall.

This open meeting is the latest in a long line of activities which have taken place as part of the Heritage Project about the effect of the two World Wars on Llanfair and the research being undertaken to produce a complete list of all those who served in the armed forces.

Computer Skills Course

THE computer skills course which has been operating in the hall for several months has now ended.

Teacher Helen Thomas has been giving lessons on how to use a laptop computer and its many facilities.

She has focused very much on how through access to the internet, research can be undertaken through visiting a whole range of information websites.

This focus on research is very helpful to those pursuing information relevant to the World War project being followed in the village.
