ON 26 November, before the group’s Christmas break, Jenny Ward, the branch president, welcomed the speaker for the afternoon, Rose Neville, who talked about her craft work.
Rose started her craft work when she moved to the area some years ago. She found time was on her hands and started drawing, before taking up sewing and attending classes making bags and hangings.
Rose found she enjoyed it and was good at this type of work. That was the start of a wonderful hobby which included burning designs on wood; making hangings; stump work; white on white needlework, which comes from Victorian times; crochet work; and gold and ribbon embroidery.
You name it and Rose has tried it with great success. Although, she told the group that she does not like knitting.
Rose joined an over-60s club and they worked together to produce a most magnificent hanging, depicting events and work connected to the area where they lived.
Rose brought many examples of her beautiful work to the meeting. It really needs to be seen in order to appreciate the extent of her craftsmanship.
At that time of year, all thoughts were on Christmas and Rose didn’t disappoint members. She brought along her sewing machine and the group was encouraged to try their hand at making small Christmas stockings – very successfully by those who tried it.
Rose had brought along some lovely Christmas items she had made for sale.
Members agreed that it was a really great afternoon and that they had enjoyed themselves immensely.
The group hopes that Rose will make a return visit in the near future.
