Milestone
2019 marks a milestone in the history of the Quilt Association as it is now 25 years since the very first major summer exhibition of antique quilts in Llanidloes.
This year’s exhibition, ‘Silver Threads’, will feature a diverse selection of quilts from the association’s own collection, some of which were made locally and donated by local families or those with connections to the area. The exhibition opened at the Minerva Arts Centre on 3 August and runs until 7 September. Open from Monday to Saturday between 10.30am and 4.30pm, with free admission. Also on show will be some small contemporary pieces inspired by those on display, made by the Turning Point Art Textiles group and QA Trustees. There will also be a display of quilts by the contemporary art textiles group Tangent Textiles.
Leg Club
THE Leg Club is held every Thursday morning, 9am-11.30am, at Y Fan Institute. No appointment required. Nurses will be on hand to offer advice and support.
Community Centre
HAVE you enjoyed attending recent events at the Community Centre, or are your children benefitting from one of the clubs or activities hosted there? If so the centre needs you!
“The average age of our directors is 64 and several are over 70,” said Tim Morgan, chairman of the board. “If it is to stay open, we need more involvement from younger people and particularly the parents of children using the centre. So we are appealing for those people who use it to get more involved in running it.
“We have been able to host some great events in the last year such as the Roller Disco, as well as annual events such as the Christmas Fair and the Food Festival. We have the Treorchy Male Voice Choir booked for October.
“Weekly activities such as the Gym Club and Brownies/Guides continue to provide activities for young people.”
If you want to find out more contact Tim Morgan 07855 445520 or Richard Beale on 01686 440271.
