Rotary Club

WITH less than three months to go to the Rotary Across Wales Walk, a call has gone out to anyone interested to take on the challenge.Llanidloes Rotarian Paul Jones has been the official back marker after taking over the reins three years ago, however, he will be walking the route for the seventh time this June.Paul’s initial crossing in 2009 was in aid of Cancer Research UK after his mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer. The event is a great platform enabling a variety of walkers to undertake a unique challenge for a charity of their choice.Last year the combined effort of the walkers netted over £25,000 for chosen charities and also enabled the Rotary to donate £4,000 to the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. The Rotary Clubs of Llanidloes, Newtown and Machynlleth join forces each year to ensure the event runs smoothly tracking the walkers through a number of checkpoints and food stops. This year’s walk will take place on Saturday 24 June and will allow entrants to either walk the full 42 miles or shorter stages including 26 miles, 16 miles or eight miles.
