Ladies Section

LLANIDLOES Ladies Section of The Royal British Legion, held a special celebration recently to mark the 70th year of Llanidloes branch, the first meeting was held on 19 September 1947 at the United Services Club.

They had a afternoon tea for members both past and present along with friends and invited guests.

Trudy Davies, standard bearer was master of ceremony for the occasion, she welcomed mayor Janet Crisp, Cllr Christine Edwards, also welcomed president Polly Evans who recited the excitation, chairman Chris Powers, secretary Viv Williams, she mentioned treasurer Angela Morgan who unfortunately could not attend, thanked all members and friends of the Legion for their tireless work to keep the branch so vibrant.

The ladies had the privileged to hear Gay Roberts beautifully play her harp,

Trudy then entertained them with a 1940s style ‘guess the price’ quiz.

During the afternoon the mayor presented the branch with their meritorious certificate on behalf of the national officers at the head office of the Royal British Legion.

A certificate of appreciation was given to non-member Caroline Gough for helping the branch sell poppies for five years.

The mayor presented Trudy Davies with a ‘service not self’ medal which was awarded to her from the national chairman of the Poppy Appeal for her continued, long and loyal service of 35 years.

The ladies enjoyed a wonderful tea held at the Red Lion Hotel Llanidloes where they also hold their meetings every first Wednesday of the month.

Trudy finished the afternoon by thanking everyone for attending saying anyone would be made most welcome to join the friendly branch.

THANKSGIVING Service on Wednesday, 27 September, 6.30pm, all welcome.

Guided walks

FREE guided walks around the town take place every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Meet at the Town Hall at 10.30am.

Walks last between one and two hours.

Harvest festival

THERE is a welcome extended to all at Oakley Park Chapel for the Harvest Festival on Thursday, 5 October at 7pm.

The guest Preacher is Rev Robert Thomas of Llandrindod Wells.

On Sunday, 8 October, there is a Children’s Harvest Festival at 2pm.

Medieval history

DR David Stephenson’s classes in Medieval History will resume in the first week of October.

The subject for the new term will be The Norman Conquest of Ireland.

Classes start at 7pm on Tuesday, 3 October, or at 2pm on Wednesday, 4 October, both at The Mount Inn, and will run for 10 weeks.

New members always welcome.

Barn dance for palliative care

THERE is to be a Barn Dance on 6 October at Broneirion, Llandinam, 7pm-12pm, with a DJ and entertainment from the Twerzels. Entrance fee of £15 also includes hog roast. Pay on the door or buy tickets from Hester Brebner at the office at Out Patients in Llanidloes Hospital. All money raised goes toward the new Palliative Care Unit in the hospital.ExhibitionA PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition featuring the work of members of the Llanidloes Photography Group is currently on show at The Old Mill. Those members featured are Steve Smout, Bill Bagley, Des Richardson, Joan Gilbert and Hugh Wilmer.
