Rotary Club
LLANIDLOES Rotary Club recently hosted its annual thank you evening in the town’s rugby club.
The Rotarians are well-known for taking on many ventures throughout the year to benefit the community whilst raising funds for a variety of good causes.
Although the club boasts a healthy membership many of these commitments would be impossible without an army of helpers who turn up year after year to support the Rotary.
These ‘Friends of Rotary’ demonstrate their commitment during the visiting Wales Rally GB when many of them stand for hours on end in Hafren Forest.
Marshalling the rally is a complicated task with a high level of responsibility to ensure all the spectators arrive and leave the stage safely.
Another of the Rotary’s great success’s is the annual Bonfire night which would not be possible without kind sponsorship from Morris, Marshall and Poole Estate Agents and Llani Leisure. Local building contractor Austin Lewis adds the finishing touches by supplying his lighting tower for the entry point.
Ladies of the Inner Wheel, partners and dependents of the Rotarians always turn out in force to ensure whatever the club decides to host is executed to perfection.
Local proprietors assist in many of the clubs raffles and collections including the annual Giant Easter Egg raffle.
Trudy Davies of Woosnam and Davies newsagents is a loyal supporter of the local club and always goes above and beyond in her support for Rotary Good Causes.
Vice president John Selwyn Smith chaired the evening and thanked everyone who had helped the club during 2017.
John explained some of the events the club will host in 2018 and allowed treasurer Paul Jones to promote a 10k run which the club is organising in aid of Llanidloes High School.
Paul Dark of Rhayader entertained the guests after a very enjoyable carvery meal before the Rotarians held their traditional raffle.
