Community council
THE council met on 1 February to discuss the correspondence and concerns raised by the community. The county council had been out to look at the culvert near Moelifor. Cllr Rees Evans reported that he had been told that a replacement for the speed warning light on Rhiwfach was on a list of work to be carried out in the next financial year. The trunk road authority has acknowledged the letter asking for a crossing on the A487 but made no promises.The message on Facebook about equipment for the play area had received six replies and based on these, HAGS-SMP, Playquest and Ray Ceredigion were asked for quotes. After discussion, it was decided that instead of buying a traditional piece of equipment such as a roundabout or seesaw the council should ask for a meeting with Ray Ceredigion to discuss the cost of using locally sourced material to add to the existing play equipment.Notice was received from the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales to say that it is undertaking a review of electoral arrangements; more information is available on the village noticeboard.Information was received from Ceredigion County Council about a draft report on the Assessment of Local Wellbeing and of a consultation on the council’s wellbeing objectives for 2017/18. Correspondence was received from an organisation that is organising the lighting of beacons across the UK on 11 November 2018 as the nation’s tribute to those who fought in the First World War. If anyone or any local organisation is interested in learning more contact the clerk.
The appeals received during 2016/17 were discussed and the decision taken to make a contribution under S137 powers to the following organisations: £100 each to Llanddeiniol Church, Llanddeiniol Community Association, Llanrhystud Church, Ysgol Feithrin Glan y Môr, Y Ddolen and Air Ambulance Wales; £200 to Myfenydd School Council; and £50 each to Welsh Hearts, Age Cymru Ceredigion and Macmillan Cancer Care.
Permission was given to pay the annual fee of £29.95 for the website and for the clerk to purchase six litter-picking tools.Two complaints were received from the community about Japanese Knot-weed that has been found growing by the river and fly-tipping – plastic picnic chairs and other rubbish has been dumped on the river bank. These complaints have been passed on to the county council.
The next meeting will take place on 1 March at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall.
