AT the March meeting Toby Driver gave an illustrated talk on Celts and Romans on the Ceredigion coast, covering around 2,700 years of history.
Prior to 1962, when Cambridge University began aerial flights, only two Iron Age forts had been recognised.
Since then crop marks have revealed many more sites of historical interest.
Aerial photographs by the Royal Commission of Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales drew Toby’s attention to a site near Trawscoed, which subsequent excavations established as the site of a Roman villa.
Finds from the site will be displayed in the Bowen Gallery of Ceredigion Museum.
Sadly, we will have to travel to the Ashmolean Museum to see the original Divination Spoons found at Penbryn or to the British Museum to see the spectacular late Bronze Age shield found at Blaenplwyf.
The next meeting will be on Monday, 9 April, in Llanon reading room.
Richard Ireland will enlighten the group with a talk entitled Dead Horses and Vermin.
