WHAT a busy few months it has been; November was the AGM, Christine was voted back in unanimously as president with Liz joining the other officers as assistant secretary.
After listening to the annual report it was amazing to realise just how much they had done in the year.
Gay was the WI adviser for the evening; she talked about organ donation, a subject very close to her heart after donating a kidney to her son.
Gay encouraged all to think about organ donation, and to make sure that families know their wishes after they die, as families can still overrule the decision.
Gay’s son is now extremely well, back at work and after training for British Transplant Games he did exceptionally well.
At the December meeting, they discussed the resolutions, and programme for next year, then relaxed with a glass of mulled wine or a bit of fizz and enjoyed warm mince pies, helping to put us in the mood for Christmas.
The competition was a homemade Christmas decoration this was won by Margaret, second Liz and third Christine.
After this, the potential new member Pat, read a poem she had written entitled ‘My Menopausal Christmas’; this was greeted with much laughter and hilarity.
The following Thursday was the annual Christmas dinner; this was held at the Dolau Cothi Arms, they all thought it was a great venue with good food and a fabulous atmosphere.
After the meal, they entertained the locals by bursting into song, led by Jill and Kay who knew all of the words of all of the verses to all of the carols!
The new year was made special as they welcomed three new members to the WI, Pat, Sally and Jen, but sadly we also had to say goodbye to Sian who, with divided loyalties, has decided to join the local choir that meets on the same evening.
After a brief business meeting, the evening was kicked off with a fun quiz set by Rick Robarts, the quiz master for the evening.
He set some quite difficult questions (they thought), but there was much laughter and hilarity, although at times it may have been hysteria! The winning team was Carol D, Pat and Sian.
The speaker for February was Lesley Jones who stepped in at very short notice after the original speaker was unable to attend.
Lesley demonstrated how to make fabric tulips.
At first sight they looked quite complicated, but surprisingly easy once they got started under Lesley’s expert eye.
There were periods of deep concentration interspersed with an awful lot of chatter and laughter, despite this everyone achieved a very presentable tulip by the end of the evening.
The competition was a green heart any medium: 1st was Marion, 2nd Rita and 3rd Linda. Well done to all who entered.
The next meeting is on St David’s Day, 1 March, when Dennis Robinson will be talking about Bikes in the Sahara, an epic Journey from Blighty to Bansang on the mighty Honda in aid of the Bansang Hospital Appeal.
New members are always welcome. Contact Christine 01570 480142 for more details, or go to our facebook page Llanwenog WI.
