THE January meeting started with the president wishing everyone a very happy new year.

The guest speaker was Dan Kempton, from the fire service, who came to talk on home fire safety.

He gave an interesting talk which made everyone think about how they could be careless about switching off plugs and closing doors at night.

He said they give free calls to check and advise people on safety. Several members filled in a form to book a call.

After a cup of tea and cake, the monthly business was discussed.

The competition was for the prettiest Christmas card. The winner was Elizabeth Potts, with Diane Thomas second and Sally Rees third.

The next meeting will be on the first Monday in February.
