Repair café

MACHYNLLETH Repair Café take place on Saturday, 19 January, at the Owain Glynd?r Institute, between 10.30am and 1.30pm, and again will coincide with a session of the popular Machynlleth Community Bike Workshop.

Volunteer repair experts will be available to help make all possible repairs free of charge. Tools and materials will also be on hand.

People visiting the Repair Café can bring along their broken items from home.

Lamps, hairdryers, clothes, Christmas toys - anything that is broken is welcome.

Machynlleth Repair Café wants to help reduce mountains of waste, save money and resources, build community, and reduce CO2 emissions.

Ecodyfi is able to spend some time developing the Repair Café due to a small grant from Bro Dyfi Community Renewables – the co-op that owns the two community wind turbines above Pantperthog.

Tuesday Club AGM

PENNAL Tuesday club held its AGM on Tuesday, 8 January.

Following the chairman’s welcome, officers were elected as follows: Chairman, Bob Dunn; secretary, role will be shared again as in 2018.

Bob proposed that the general committee should be renamed the programme committee, to help with ideas/arrangement of speakers and trips. The committee members present agreed to this proposal.

Treasurer will be Lesley Batson; committee/programme members, Joan Bedford, Margaret Hughes, Cilla Connor and Annwen Jones.

Music club

MACHYNLLETH Music Club will be hosting a lunchtime concert at Y Tabernacl on Saturday, 26 January, supported by the Countess of Munster Music Trust.

Featuring Catriona McDermid, with Mana Shibata and Suling King, the concert starts at 1 pm.

Tickets are available, with under 18s free.

Panto

THE New Dyfi Players’ pantomime will be held during February half term at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen.

Twm Sion CAT Rides Again starts on Thursday, 28 February, with a matinee show on Saturday, 2 March.

Tickets will be on sale at the end of January from Dyfi Wholefoods and Miscellannea.

Civic society

ON Thursday, 17 January, the Machynlleth and District Civic Society’s executive committee is holding its opening bimonthly meeting of the year at the Tabernacle, Heol Pen’rallt, at 7pm.

All members of the society are entitled to attend.

Royal chef

ALZHEIMER’S Society Cymru is inviting readers to join them for a special charity breakfast at Canolfan Pennal on Thursday, 24 January.

The breakfast will be cooked by Huw Jones TB (Tyddyn Briddell), former chef for the Queen.

Benefit gig

THE Surfragettes, with special guests Rebel Disco, will perform a benefit gig at Machynlleth Bowling Club on Saturday, 26 January from 7pm.

Climate group

THE recently-formed Extinction Rebellion (Climate) Group will now meet at the White Lion at 6pm on Tuesdays instead of Mondays.

The group is hosting a coffee morning at St Peter’s Church on 26 January, from 10.30am, and invite people to bring a favourite photo/painting of this beautiful area, or any showing the effects of our changing climate.

There will be the chance to talk to each other and a variety of experts about how the climate is changing in the Dyfi Valley and what we can do about climate change.

The XR movement is calling on the UK government for much greater action to deal with the climate emergency the world is facing. Everyone will be very welcome.
