THE latest community news from Machynlleth

Bowls

LEAVING it very late in the day, Machynlleth enjoyed a vital oneshot victory at mid-table Kerry to keep their Montgomeryshire County Men’s League championship hopes alive on Thursday, 1 August.

The result was in doubt until the 21st and last end when Machynlleth maintained their winning run and secured five points to Kerry’s two.

Maglona suffered an eight-shot defeat at home to the county men’s league division two run-away leaders, Llanfair Caereinion, on 1 August.

Unbeaten in division two this season, and champions elect, Llanfair (five points) were given a big fright before they came out on top against a determined Maglona (two points).

On the ladies’ county scene, on Saturday, 3 August, Machynlleth bowlers continued to make excellent progress in the Mid Wales Ladies’ CBA county competitions, winning in two semi-finals and just losing out in another.

Sue Mount and Meira Evans will contest the final of the pairs after beating Presteigne’s C Hooper and B Sheers while, in the triples, Eileen Jones, Margaret Evans and Meira Evans put paid to Welsh international Kathy Pearce’s threesome, including H Wilson and E. Gittins.

In the semi-final of the fours, Betty Fleming, Sue Mount, Yvonne Jones and Kyli Williams lost to I Jones, E Gittins, B Gittins and N Lewis of Berriew.

Pollinators’ Festival

THIS month will see two local gardening groups come together to provide a great opportunity for the community and those from further afield to celebrate nature’s wonderful pollinators.

The Pollinators’ Festival, which will take place at and around Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens and Edible Mach Maethlon’s show allotment, will start at 11am and be an exciting place to be featuring, children’s wildlife activities, games, minibeast hunt, make a pledge for pollinators, planting for pollinators’ talks and tours by experts, natural beekeepers, stalls, pollinator face-painting, music, tea and cakes.

All welcome.
