North West Cancer Research.
THE group paid tribute to three ladies standing down from the committee after a total of 81 years’ loyal and dedicated service. Audrey Bebb Evans (41 years), Ross Evans (28 years) and Teleri Humphreys (12 years) were praised for their loyalty and commitment to fundraising. Chairman Geraint Jones said how much the dedication of all was valued. He expressed sympathy to the family of Huw Lawton Davies who, after 23 years of untiring fundraising, passed away earlier this year. He also sympathised with vice chair Karyl Davies and family over the death of her mother, Cora Edwards who, over many years, had been a great campaigner for robust health services. The treasurer reported another good year of fundraising. For 2015/16 £4,636 had been forwarded to NWCR Head Office for continuing vital research at Bangor, Liverpool and Lancaster Universities. Donations in memory of Huw Lawton Davies (£521.42) and Gladys Jones of Bryncrug (£310) totalled £831.42. The annual coffee morning totalled £1,248.05, Corris whist drives (£815), Clwb Ffermwyr Ifanc Christmas Concert (£320), Ysgol Bro Hyddgen fundraising events (£128.80), street collection (£941.44), Machynlleth Golf Club competitions (£40) and Glesni and William Jones’ wedding day donation (£236). Officers elected were: chairman, Geraint Jones; vice-chairman, Karyl Davies; secretary, Meinir Davies; treasurer, Alwena Price, committee: Eluned Besent, Doreen Ellis, Eryl Evans, Margaret Evans, Alice Hughes, Hilda Humphreys, Ann Lloyd Jones, Bronwen Jones, Catrin Jones, Ann Owen, Ann Parry, Olwen Roberts, Margaret Wilson and Michael Williams. Initial arrangements were made for two events next year and it was also agreed to attend the Christmas Fair at Glantwymyn Community Centre on Friday, 18 November.

ENTERTAINMENTS organiser, Betty Fleming, expressed her admiration of the Friends of Machynlleth BC whist drives recently who raised £1,329 over the last 12 months for charities and worthy causes.

HAVING won their opening two fixtures in Division One of the Machynlleth Pool League, White Lion A and Skinners Arms held top spot with six points apiece. However, the week’s outstanding result saw Llew Coch Ladies’ 15-0 whitewash of their opponents in Division Two.
