THE latest news from Machynlleth.
Royal British Legion
Royal British Legion RBL held their annual general meeting on 1 November, which was opened by chairman Stephen Doyle. The Exhortation was given in Welsh by Bronwen Jones and in English by Stephen Doyle.
There were 18 members present and apologies were received from 10 others.
The president thanked members for their hard work, especially the running of the Poppy Appeal.
Mention was made of the unfortunate resignation of Richie Jones, a member for countless years, who has had to resign due to ill health.
The president concluded by commenting that the branch was quite strong and anticipated it going from strength to strength.
The chairman agreed with the president’s sentiments but felt that more members were needed to help with the Poppy Appeal, but recognised all the support RBL have had.
The chair also mentioned that a meeting has been held with Tywyn RBL and that Machynlleth hopes to welcome them as a sub branch in the new year.
In the secretary’s report, members were thanked for their help and support with a special mention being made of assistant secretary Sylvia Rowlands, who is always around to help.
The chair went on: “I am saddened at the loss of our chairman of five years, Richie Jones, who resigned because of ill health, and welcome our new chairman Stephen Doyle, who has been our vice-chairman for many years, and I hope he will enjoy his role as chairman. I wish the branch every success for the new year”.
Treasurer, Iris Doyle, told members that there was £1,352.34 in the Benevolence Fund, and £1,232.72 in the General Fund.
Iris told members that the previous treasurer, Marilyn Jones, had the account books audited before she took over and copies had been sent to head office of the RBL.
