Machynlleth will host a range of events celebrating the Basque country and Euskara language used in the region as part of a cultural collaboration project between Celtic countries. Youngsters from Machynlleth’s Ysgol Bro Hyddgen will play a key role in the events which will be held in Machynlleth, with other events also being held in Aberystwyth and Tywyn. Machynlleth’s Y Tabernacl will host an exhibition opening on Saturday, 7 January from one of the most famous Basque artists, Juan Gorriti, with the Owain Glyndwr Institute also hosting a Basque exhibition on the same day looking at things such as clothing and tools. There will also be a grand concert at Y Tabernacl on Saturday, 7 January including a host of both Welsh and Basque performers, with a poetry, wine and food event at Caffi Alys in Machynlleth on Sunday, 8 January, followed by a film night at Y Tabernacl on Monday, 9 January. Meic Llewellyn, of Celtic Neighbours, the organisation that is helping to organise the events in the Dyfi Valley, said the scheme had been a great chance to work with youngsters from Ysgol Bro Hyddgen, including a scheme that wil see youngsters act as guides for the visitors from the Basque country. REMEMBRANCE Day was a great success in both Machynlleth and Tywyn with over 100 people attending the respective cenotaphs.Christmas luncheon Saturday, 17 December at Tyn y Cornel Hotel, Tywyn was reconfirmed even though its management has changed. The raffle there will include a turkey.It was proposed and passed that all attending meetings should bring an inexpensive prize for raffling and that subs for 2017 would be raised to £15, in order that the association might raise its finance to subsidise bus trips such as that to the National Arboretum.It was also passed that the welfare officer Eirian Owen Jenkins should be allowed a small budget to enable her to satisfy our needs to convey our concern to any member falling ill.The fun day at Capel Bangor was discussed, with Jen Taylor heading it up for the spring.The president was tasked with finding out about the possibility of a visit by our ACF to the Blaenau Ffestiniog RWF Museum. RWFCA encompasses anyone with a connection to the Royal Navy, Army, RAF, Territorial Army/Reserves or ACF in our area, wives/partners also welcome.
