Mothers’ Union
ON Wednesday, 30 November, the Machynlleth branch of the Mothers’ Union took part in a 16-day activism against gender violence by holding a vigil at the Machynlleth Town Clock to raise awareness of gender violence against women and girls.A spokesperson said that “statistics show that the situation is getting worse due to stress in families. So, raising awareness is needed more than ever. Twelve women have died in Wales since January this year.”

CELEBRATING Welsh and Basque language and culture, the Tabernacle will be hosting events on Saturday, 7 and Monday, 9 January starting at 7.30 pm, a grand concert will be held Saturday, 7 January staring Bidaia, Gwilym Bowen Rhys, Inaki Perurina, Osian Morris and Nic Davalan and Rhiasn Bebb and Carys Hafans. Tickets £10 (£7.00 concessions)On Monday, 9 January, a film night will feature short films from Wales and the Basque country starting at 7.30pm, cost £5 (£3.50 concessions).

MOMA Exhibitions
EXHIBITIONS on view at the Tabernacle Museum of Modern Art include, in the Ruralist room, The Second Visit by Tim Tozer, while in the foyer is the exhibition Christmas Selection, with original works by Welsh artists including Ian Phillips and Elin Sian Blake.In the Pulpit Room is the exhibition The Works by Terence Lambert and in the Owen Owen Gallery is the exhibition Airport Series by Gordon Miles.The Bridge Gallery features works by Ann Williams entitled Maritime, while in the Tannery Gallery and Sculpture space is an exhibition by Juan Gorriti, one of the Basque Country’s foremost living artists.Galleries are open Monday to Saturday and entry is free.
Bowls AGM
OPENING the meeting on 6 December, club president Michael Williams and members paid silent tribute to colleagues who had passed away during the past year, making special mention of Gwilym (Curly) Evans who had worked tirelessly for the club for over five decades.He congratulated both men and women bowlers for the success at various levels of the game: the winning of the County League, County Mixed League and Cambrian Rose Bowl. Special mention was made of Andrew Fleming who retained his Welsh International status and of Naomi Fleming on her success in retaining her position in the Welsh Women’s Under 25 Team.Reports were made by the chair, secretary and treasurer, whose detailed accounts were approved with thanks. Debra Jones and Betty Fleming were praised for their continuing fund-raising skills and the committee, green-keepers, bar staff, cleaners and all other helpers also received recognition. Officers elected:- Michael Williams, president; Julian Fenwick, vice-president; Michael Rogers, chairman; Phillip Jenkins, vice-chair and captain; Andrew Fleming, secretary and Barry Fleming, treasurer.Committee members: Eileen Jones; John Rogers; Garry Price; Thomas Jenkins; Betty Fleming; Alwyn Jones, Don Lewis; Eryl Jones; Hefin Ellis and Kevin Jones.Trustees: Michael Williams; Michael Rogers; John L. Civic Society
THE society will be holding its first bi-monthly executive meeting of the New Year at the Tabernacle on Thursday, 19 January, at 7pm. All members of the society are entitled to attend.
