MACHYNLLETH (five points), recovering from their dismal home performance against Newtown, claimed a stunning 19-shot victory at Montgomeryshire CBA County League division one leaders Welshpool (two points) to get their push for top spot back on course on Thursday, 3 August.

The Llynlloedd men will retain the title if they secure a win at home to Berriew in their last game of the season.

Meanwhile, at home to Maesydre (Welshpool) in division two, Maglona (one point), fell to a ninth defeat in this year’s campaign as the visitors won by 44 shots and pocketed six league points.

Reigning champions Machynlleth maintained the leadership of the county mixed league with a 20-shot success at home to Montgomery on August 4. They were rewarded with six points to the visitors’ one.

Machynlleth’s five-game impressive run in the Welsh Bowling Association’s Welsh Clubs’ Championship Carruthers’ Shield came to an end at the quarter-final stage when they lost 109-59 at Pontrhydyfen on 5 August.

The five-times winners since 2000 will now play Merthyr West End while, in the other semi-final, Ely Valley will take on Harlequins, who beat Cardigan 107-67.

Evelyn Jones said she would like to thank all who supported the branch.
