Book Club
THERE will be a meeting of the Machynlleth Tabernacle-based book club on Friday, 4 May.
The club meets in the Green Room from 2pm until 3.30pm.
Admission fee £1.
The main publication under discussion will be Green Room by Margaret Forster.
Air Ambulance Fundraiser
MACHYNLLETH Bowling Club’s recent whist drive raised £152 for the Wales Air Ambulance.
Organisers thanked all involved.
Gardeners’ AGM
MEMBERS of Gerddi Bro Ddyfi Gardens met at the White Lion Hotel on 10 April, and continued with arrangements for the group’s AGM which will be held at 2pm in Plas Machynlleth on Saturday, 12 May.
At the meeting members will be saying a sad farewell and a big thank you to their wonderful treasurer of many years’ standing, Jane Salisbury.
Anna Fisher, (also the group’s assistant leader for the ‘Sowing Seeds’ project), took over the treasurer’s position recently.
Anna has many years of accounting experience with not-for-profit organisations and the group looks forward to what she will bring to the role.
Leader Angela Paxton said: “We are also looking for committee members, so if you would like to get involved with Gerddi, do please come along, or get in touch, we would love to hear from you.”
Garden Club
MACHYNLLETH and District Garden Club next meets on Tuesday, 1 May at the bowling club, 7.30pm.
The speaker will be Mark Zenick of New Hope Gardens, near Bishop’s Castle.
He will speak on ‘Reflections of an American Nurseryman’ and will have a selection of hybrid American day-lilies available for purchase.
Art Collection
ON 29 March, on behalf of the Directors of the Machynlleth Tabernacle Trust, administrator Raymond Jones welcomed guests to the auditorium for the launch of the Tabernacle Art Collection online.
Ray said it gave him great pleasure to introduce Michael Goulden, consultant to the Glasfryn project, who gave a very interesting and in-depth account of the project, which was well-received by an appreciative audience.
Ray thanked Michael for his kind words and said how much his skills were appreciated.
David Anderson, treasurer to the trust, thanked everyone for their financial support.
Concluding, he said fundraising was ongoing and that the trust appreciated the expertise of Brian Roberts and his workforce.
Green Opening
CLUB president Michael Williams delivered the first bowl to officially open Machynlleth Bowling Club’s 2018 season on Sunday, 22 April.
Then the bowlers took to the green for the annual RNLI Pairs competition.
All monies raised will go to the Aberdyfi branch of RNLI.
Later in the day the president expressed his best wishes to all for a successful and, more importantly, happy season at whatever level of the game.
Heritage Society
THE Dyfi Valley Heritage Society will be holding its AGM and members’ evening in the foyer of the Tabernacle, Heol Pen’rallt, at 7pm on Wednesday, 2 May.
Members are asked to bring along and talk about an item of interest.
Art and Craft Sale
AN art and craft sale will take place at the bowling club on Saturday, 28 April.
The Crafty Magpie Art and Craft Sale will be on between 10am and 3.30pm at the bowling club.
Dance Circle
A DREAM Dance Circle will take place at Derwenlas Village Hall on Saturday, 28 April.
The event will be held between 3.30pm and 6pm and will involve meditation, dream work and movement.
People are encouraged to bring a dream vision with optional offerings of flowers or fruit between £5 and £7.
