THE rotary club has given its backing to talented young people in the area.
Following interviews with possible candidates, the Rotary Club of Mawddach chose Arron Tregenza and Mirain Rhys, both students at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, Dolgellau Campus, to attend this year’s Rotary Youth Leadership course. These courses are designed as a training programme for leaders and potential leaders and is one of the most successful Rotary programmes Rotary run.
The young participants for the course, held at the Arthog Outdoor Activity centre, came from locations throughout North Wales, Cheshire, and Merseyside.
After a brief getting to know you session as a group of 42, they were then split into three teams where none of them knew any of their fellow team members.
The idea of the course was to quickly develop their communication skills so that on the many physical and mental challenges that followed they could quickly bond as an effective team. Every candidate had to lead their team.
Over the years that these course have been running, it is quite evident that in just a week the participants clearly leave the with greater ability to work closely with colleague to achieve a common objective, and an understanding of how important it is to have the ability to assess other people’s strengths and weaknesses to enable such objectives to be achieved.
Rotary clubs expect a presentation from their sponsored students after they attend the course.
Arron and Mirain made an excellent presentation to the Mawddach club and gave many examples of how their ability to approach problems and their improved confidence enabled them to work well with their peers.
The presentation had obviously been carefully constructed and they were congratulated by the club for its delivery and content.
Arron and Mirain were presented with a Rotary Young Leaders Award certificate and were congratulated for their achievement and their plans for their respective futures.
