Cross Inn WI

WHAT an interesting and productive evening the members of Cross Inn WI had when they attended a pottery painting session at Pot Sian, the local pottery workshop.

Following a brief instructive demonstration and advice about the coloured glazes which were to be used to decorate each member’s chosen dish, plate or figurine, creative talents were let loose to produce a masterpiece which would be treasured by us, if not anyone else!

Everyone took up the challenge and by the end of the evening the tables were full of imaginatively decorated pottery waiting to be fired in the kiln.

Throughout the evening Sian was by members’ sides, encouraging those who doubted their artistic ability while ensuring that the tea and biscuits flowed.

A really fun evening was had by all.

Walkers

FIFTEEN hardy New Quay Walkers and three dogs met at Cwmtydu on a grey and drizzly morning on Saturday, 24 January, for a five-mile walk in country inland from the village.

Despite the time of year, the weather was very mild and the walkers were in good spirit as they travelled along grassy paths and through the deep wooded Afon Fothau valley towards the little hamlet of Penbontrhydarfothau.

From there, and using local lanes to join up the route followed further wooded trails past Cwmsgog and Pendderw before returning to Cwmtydu.

Local leaders Peter and Gayle Thomas and Berwyn Thomas kept the group well-informed throughout regarding the history of the area and some of the local characters over the ages.

This combined to create a most enjoyable walk in a delightful and unspoilt countryside.

The next walk will be led by Morlais Davies in the Rhydlewis area on Saturday, 16 February, meeting at Rhydlewis Village Hall at 10.30am. Further details from Glyn on 01545 561285.
