Walkers
ON Saturday, 7 September, the New Quay Walkers met at Devil’s Bridge for a seven-mile circular walk in the Mynach Valley.
The leaders were Jack Davies and Kim Hudson.
Ten walkers accompanied by one dog set off on a cloudy but dry day, the sunshine appearing during the afternoon.
The outward route followed the north side of the Mynach before crossing a bridge to follow the southern bank on the return journey.
The beauty of the Mynach Valley is unsurpassed in mid Wales and the group was able to enjoy the scenery from both its sides as well as some elevated ground at various points.
There was also an interesting variety of woodland and open ground lease.
Camera club
THURSDAY evening’s meeting at the memorial hall, the first of the new season, was the annual general meeting.
Margaret Jones, the chairman, opened the meeting with the minutes and chairman’s report, from the last AGM.
Sonia Sharneck presented her treasurer’s report, Morlais Davies, the secretaries report, and competition secretary, Arnold Phipps-Jones, the competition league tables, for the past year.
It was confirmed that the majority of the committee, were happy to continue in their posts, with the exception of Margaret, who, as the club’s founding member, and after some 20 years at the helm, has wished to relinquish her position.
Sonia Sharneck, was elected to fulfil the position.
It was proposed by Morlais that Margaret should be honoured for her ceaseless commitment to the club by bestowing the title of president of the club.
All present endorsed the motion, and Margaret humbly accepted.
After the AGM, there was a review of PDI’s, brought in by members for discussion, and, after the meeting was adjourned, a few members of the competition selection group, remained behind, to discuss the principles of selection.
They welcome new members, of all abilities, to improve, or bring a new perspective, to a very friendly club.
There will be an extra meeting, at the memorial hall on 12 September when Gareth Parry will offer tips on the photo editing software, ‘Lightroom’.
At the next full meeting, on the 19th, there will be an in-house competition, to be judged by popular judge, and past member, Andrew Warren, on the theme of ‘Market Day’. Bring prints on the night.
