Walkers
THE Cilgerran area was the destination for the New Quay Walkers on Saturday, 18 March. Twelve walkers and three dogs met near Llwyncelyn for a six-mile circular walk led by Gillian and Helen Morley on a grey and breezy day. The route included woodland paths, farm tracks and fields and went by Rhosygilwen, Ty Rhos and the Arboretum at Tyhen before heading back to Llwyncelyn via Allt y Rheini. The highlight was undoubtedly the display of spring flowers with masses of daffodils, snowdrops, primroses, wood anemonies and other wildwood plants. Walking through the Arboretum was also a delight. Next walk, Saturday, 22 April, is in the Cwmsymlog area to view the remnants of the old lead and silver mines which dotted the area for many centuries. Details from Glyn on 01545 561285.

Cross Inn WI
LAST Monday members had the great pleasure of meeting and talking with Brian John, the author of the renown and popular Angel Mountain Sagas. He told of his life before Angel Mountain when he was part of an expedition to Iceland in his role as a geographer and researcher based at Durham University. During this stage of his life he wrote mostly for the academic market before being persuaded by his wife to record an amazing tale which was told to him in a dream by the main character in his Angel Mountain books, Martha. He had to publish the first book himself as no publishing house was interested in “Welsh Historical Novels” but as we know, the rest is literally history. The book took off and is now has a readership all over the world. He certainly is an inspiration to aspiring writers. The evening was rounded off by a sumptuous “Welsh Tea” of home-made scones, jam and cream, bara brith and welsh cakes, accompanied, of course, by cups of tea. The next meeting is on Monday, 10 April, well known harpist, Meinir Heulyn will entertain the group. It promises to be a very different evening. Come and join in.
