Walkers
THE May walk centered on the historic Gwaun Valley and the slopes of Carn Ingli, one of the most outstanding hilltops in the Preselis in North Pembrokeshire.
Twelve walkers and three dogs assembled at the Sychpant National Park picnic site on a bright and sunny morning.
The first section was a walk near the valley floor through beech woodland just coming into leaf. They were passed by 40 or so runners coming through on a marathon race.
There followed a long and gradual climb up to nine hundred feet to near the cairn on top of Carn Ingli.
Lunch was taken at this point sitting at the foot of a comfortable hedge followed by an amble along the top to Bedd Morris, enjoying views down into the Gwaun Valley and north to Dinas Head and the sea. The final stage took the group back down through open country to the start point.
The day was completed with refreshments at the Dyffryn Arms, Pontfaen with a warm welcome from landlady Bessie, who has run this unique pub for over sixty years.
Well worth a visit to see one of the few remaining traditional and unspoilt Welsh country pubs.
