THE latest community news from Newcastle Emlyn
U3A
MAY’S meeting was given by Anita Freter, one of the members.
Anita lived in South Africa for 10 years and was instrumental in helping to set up and run an animal welfare charity in one of the townships.
They worked to support the people in looking after their animals, particularly cats and dogs.
Her own two dogs, which she brought back to the UK when she came back to live in Wales, were rescued from the township.
It was a very interesting and enlightening talk giving everyone a feel for living in South Africa.
The meeting was also important in that it was the first time they used the new projector bought with a grant from National Lottery Awards for All.
The better, brighter picture was much appreciated by all the members present.
The next monthly meeting is on Wednesday, 6 June, and will be a talk on Guatemala, its history, culture and wildlife.
It will given by John Piggott who is a member of Cardigan U3A and Newcastle Emlyn U3A.
Monthly meetings usually take place on the first Wednesday of the month at 10,30am for 11am at the Community Hall and usually finish about 12.15pm.
The U3A is for retired and semi-retired people who want to live, laugh and learn together.
Various groups meet during the month including astronomy, strolling, craft, French, games, wine appreciation and luncheon club.
The subscription for 2017-2018 is £14 but the first meeting is free.
