Art workshops
A FORMER Penglais School pupil will return to Aberystwyth this month to deliver free art workshops to children.
Cara Rainbow, pictured above, will run a series of art and design workshops for young people at The Hub in Penparcau.
These are free to attend and all material costs are covered.
“My motivation behind this project is largely inspired by the art education I received at Penglais school and the creative workshops I deliver at Goldsmiths, University of London,” Cara explained.
“Taking inspiration from Children of The Unquiet – a piece of video art by Mikhail Karikis, we will focus on the idea of creating a new world without adults in it and one that they have full control over.
“We will use this concept to explore ideas of identity, home and locality.”
She added: “When I was in Penglais school I enjoyed being creative but I didn’t see it as my future, let alone thinking of doing an A-level or degree in it. I remember how much my art teachers influenced and supported my creativity, I’m so grateful that they introduced me to so many things and helped me find my path.
“It’s wonderful being able to bring some creative workshops to Aberystwyth and show the participants the creative possibilities and potential of their own imaginations. I really want to reach out to the young people who have a curiosity towards art and those who might be a bit shy or confused about art. These workshops are for everyone and we will learn and make new things together.”
The workshops will take place every Thursday in August (From 10am to noon for 7 to 11-year-olds and their guardians, and from 1pm to 4pm for 12 to 17-year-olds. To register, email [email protected]
