Seniors

THE Penparcau Seniors members, organised by their chairperson Cllr Lorrae Jones-Southgate, enjoyed a ‘Mystery Trip’ on 4 October.

A welcome break for morning coffee at the Ivy Bush Hotel, Carmarthen then on to a River Boat Cruise on the ‘Copper Jack’ Riverboat at the Swansea Marina. Members were hosted by the voluntary crew and a most interesting history of the Swansea copper Industry and surroundings was given.

Then on to the nearby National Waterfront Museum where all enjoyed lunch at the ‘Waterfront Museum Cafe’ Elio’s.

On 18 October again Lorrae organised a luncheon for the members at the ‘Starling Cloud’ where a most enjoyable was spent, along with the raffle held. Lorrae thanked the helpful staff and members alike for their continuing support.

Respectful words were mentioned and a minute silence given in respect of the sad loss of a fellow member. Also, to the vice-chair Enid Welsh who was unable to attend due to a recent unfortunate accident and to the members not good in health and other absent loyal members.

Lorrae opens an invitation to those who wish to come along to the Memorial Hall on 15 November at 2pm where there will be a presentation, tea and coffee, raffle and the much enjoyed bingo.

Tickets are being sold for the Christmas raffle to be held on the afternoon of the last of the year’s meetings being the 13 December.

On 29 November at the Memorial Hall, Lorrae has organised a return visit by the wonderful Tenovus Choir who will be entertaining the members that afternoon and a light buffet will follow. All members are to bring along a plus one, with an invitation extended to anyone who wishes to come along.

All proceeds of the afternoon will be donated to ‘Tenovus’ from the Penparcau Seniors Club.

The Christmas luncheon party will be held this year at the Llety Parc Hotel. An afternoon of entertainment by well-known singer and entertainer Carol Rees Jones with special guests. A welcome is extended to anyone who wishes to join them.

Community Forum

PENPARCAU Community Forum are seeking the support of the local community to help secure between £10,000 and £25,000 from the Aviva Community Fund towards the new Penparcau Community Centre, currently being built adjacent to the former Boxing Club building.

This additional funding will equip the new Youth Zone, Training Room and Community Cafe areas, with the aim and objective of up-skilling the young people of the village and creating a community centre that all the residents of Penparcau will be proud of.

Dylan Jones, chair of the Penparcau Community Forum board of directors said: “There is a real need for a community centre in Penparcau that is fully equipped to offer a comprehensive range of facilities and activities, and which acts as a central hub to enable the whole community of Penparcau to meet, network and support one another.”

To help the Forum secure their funding you can vote for them by visiting: https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/voting/project/view/16-482 .
