Seniors Social Club
BRINGING to a close what has been a most successful and enjoyable year for the Penparcau Seniors, well attended by members and guests, the Christmas Lunch on 6 December, organised by the chairperson Cllr Lorrae Jones-Southgate, at Llety Parc Hotel, Aberystwyth.
Entertainment by singer Carol Rees Jones was enjoyed and a warm welcome was given to the guest speaker Mark Williams MP. Christmas raffles were handed out by the unexpected arrival of Father Christmas and his Elf.
Cllr Lorrae gave heartfelt thanks to all the staff of Llety Parc Hotel and guests. Also, to members for their continued support and contributions throughout the year and to vice-chair Enid Welsh.
The Welsh Anthem was sung before being safely returned home by Mid Wales Travel coaches who have transported members to each venue throughout the year with care and good humour.
On 13 December the last and well-attended meeting of 2016 was held at the Neuadd Goffa Memorial Hall. All members were welcomed by Cllr Lorrae to the much looked forward Christmas raffle and Christmas tea prepared by Chives, Aberystwyth.
Cllr Lorrae had organised the entertainment and welcomed Alan Phillips who led part of the Youth Brass Band Section of the Ceredigion Education Music Service. Members sang along to many Christmas carols played by these talented young pupils (pictured).
Lorrae on behalf of the club and members thanked Mr Phillips and the band, and recognised the hard work of the music service led by Geraint Evans of Ceredigion County Council and the talent that we have throughout this county.
Also, remembered were absent members due to ill-health. Thanks were expressed to Brian Griffiths, caretaker of the Neuadd Goffa who has been steadfast in his support to the club. To Peter Edwards, Penparcau postmaster, for all his hard work as club treasurer and to Mike, proprieter of Chipbox who has been supportive with the monthly hot meal which Lorrae set up after the loss of the long-standing Luncheon Club. This has been a great success and enjoyed by members.
Lorrae thanked the committee members, very importantly the tea ladies and to Joyce Evans for her years of taking the register and entrance and raffle monies.
The chairperson wished one and all a very happy and peaceful Christmas and good health in the new year saying how paramountly important within the community of Penparcau it is that the club continues to grow. The Welsh National Anthem was sung bringing the afternoon to a close.
The first Penparcau Seniors Meeting of the year at the Neuadd Goffa Memorial Hall commenced on 10 January, from 2pm until 4pm.
The annual general meeting will be on the 24 January, 2pm until 4pm. A warm welcome is extended to all.
A sincere get well wish is extended to a long-standing and loyal member of the club, Beryl Daniell, as she recovers at Morriston Hospital, Swansea following an unfortunate accident at home.
