The committee met for its quarterly meeting. Members present were welcomed by the chair Kevin Goodwin.
Members gave priority to a discussion on the decision by Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet members to close Bodlondeb Residential Home, Penparcau which is situated yards away from the hall serving residents from Penparcau and all of Ceredigion.
Members representing the hundreds of weekly users of the hall were unanimous in their support for the Save Bodlondeb Campaign and requested that secretary Pat Bates write to the leader of the council Ellen ap Gwynn with copies to all other 41 county councillors to register their protest against any closure in March 2018.
The financial update was discussed by the committee.
Penparcau ward town councillor Brenda Haines questioned the use of the area of the hall by the local police as their Penparcau Station.
Brian Griffiths, hall manager assured Cllr Haines that the station was well used and he feared that any closure could possibly result in lack of policing in Penparcau.
The value of the presence of PSO’s to Penparcau was further discussed and supported by Kevin Goodwin and Enid Welsh.
Trustee Goronwy Edwards’ suggestion of an invite for police representation at the next meeting was agreed.
Users of the hall were pleased with the four new overhead LED panel lights and agreed to proceed with tender for remaining four overhead LED lights.
Enid Welsh, booking clerk (01970 626187) informed that bookings were excellent with only one free evening.
Welsh lessons were continuing on Tuesday evenings.
The Saturday slimming classes were extremely well attended and there is a booking for New Year’s eve by the Muslim Association Society to raise funds for local charities.
Once again members expressed their thanks to all the hall hirers who gave so much to local and further afield users with so many activities for bringing people together often combating loneliness for many.
The annual general meeting will be on 16 January 2018.
