Party in the Park

A PARTY to raise money for a local park has raised over £3,000.

Party in the Park took place last month to raise money to buy park equipment in Penrhyncoch and raised £3,200 through the sale of raffle tickets, food and drinks.

The chair of PATRASA (Penrhyncoch and Trefeurig Recreation and Sports Association) fundraising committee, Clare Larke, said: “Thanks to everyone who came and to those couldn’t make it but still bought raffle tickets.

“PATRASA would like to thank everyone who contributed; we couldn’t have achieved this fantastic result without the support of those who volunteered on the day, those who donated cakes, money and time.

“The weather was lovely. We couldn’t have asked for better. There was an excellent turnout.

“Everyone had a great time; it was a brilliant event that was enjoyed by so many people.

“Thank you to everyone who came and made the day a great success, taking us that bit closer to our new equipment for the park.

“ We hope to see you at the next PATRASA fundraiser.”

Organisers hope to raise around £30,000 for new equipment which will make the park accessible to toddlers and young wheelchair users.

Money raised at a Christmas market, beer festival and a grant from the Welsh Assembly has enabled organisers to buy a roundabout, but more money is needed to install it and to buy a unit with a slide, bridge, climbing frame and to replace the monkey bars.

“We would like to put the roundabout in place before the end of the year,” said Clare.

“It sits in the ground so it will be accessible to wheelchair users, and the new unit will be for ages 18 months and up.

“It will be great to make the park more accessible to people with mobility issues and to little ones as there’s not a lot there for them to do at the moment.”
