THE latest community news from Pentrefelin
Ynyscynhaearn Church
THIS historic church will be open to celebrate Heritage Open Doors weekend on Sunday, 3 September, from 11am to 4pm.
The church lies in a peaceful valley about a mile from the village of Pentrefelin.
It is accessible by car, but parking is extremely limited and it is an easy and pleasant walk through working farmland (all dogs on leads please).
Once the parish church for the whole area of Gest, it is now in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches, and holds registers of Baptisms, marriages and funerals for the last century.
The graveyard is fascinating, including the coloured ‘slave’ Jac Black (John Ystumllyn) and the harpist Dafydd y Garreg Wen.
The local singer with an international reputation, Nest Aneirin, will give a short concert at about 3pm as part of the celebration on Sunday, 3 September.
