Coed y Bont work party

ON Sunday, 24 July, there will be a Coed y Bont work party.

The work is to cut back the ever-growing and encroaching vegetation adjacent to the paths in the old wood (Coed Cnwch), and to continue the stone picking near the shelter and possibly to carry and spread more aggregate on the newly created hardstanding at the information board and picnic area.

If you are able to, please come along and help, to keep the woodland accessible to all.

On Saturday, 30 July, beginning at 9am it’s going to be the first of a three-part extravaganza led by Liz Snell.

At 9am she will be opening the moth traps for people to see how many different species, large and small, live and flutter around the woodland.

Next, at 10am comes a demonstration of mist-netting the woodland bird-life. See the birds upclose and whether they have been caught before, ringed, weighed and then set free again.

Third at 11am is to look for damsel flies and dragon flies which are hovering and flying around the ponds. Liz will give all the details you need on each activity.

If you can, please bring binoculars, a camera and magnifier, also insect repellent, a hat and sun-cream if needed. Small donations are welcome, but not compulsory.
