Gwynedd Council’s DementiaGo physical activity team joined forces with Russell Grant to launch an event for all those whose lives have been touched by dementia or who just want to join an afternoon of dancing and meeting people.
Russell began the afternoon with a gentle warm up followed by dance moves from his appearance on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Also on the programme for the afternoon was ‘dawnsio gwerin’ (folk dancing), led by Idawl Williams of Caernarfon, community dance organisation ‘Dawns i Bawb’ and local celebrity Wynne Roberts entertaining as Elvis.
Over 100 people from all over Gwynedd attended the event.
Emma Quaeck, the event organiser said: “It was a wonderful to see people of all ages and abilities joining in the dancing, whether up on their feet or moving in their chairs.
“What a great way to bring people together on a Saturday afternoon, the feedback was very positive.
“We are very grateful to Russell and all those who led the dances for their time and enthusiasm.”
A total of £502 was raised and this money will go to the charity, The WISE Foundation, to be shared amongst the main charities working in dementia research.
