Filipino students
MISSIONARIES from the other side of the world met in the most unexpected fashion.
Two young Filipino students of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints travelled separately over 7,000 miles, neither knowing about the other’s existence, only to be paired up to work together in Porthmadog.
Ricky Abaga, 20, and Henry Sengson, 19, both hail from The Philippines but from different parts of the island nation.
Ricky, who will train to become an architect after his missionary work, previously worked in Telford and the Manchester area before coming to work in Dwyfor.
Henry is one of 13 children but the first of his family to serve a mission.
His ambition is to become a chemical engineer so he will go back to college after his time in the UK is finished.
“There has to be some good reason for us to meet like this so far from home,” the duo commented.
“Are there any other Filipinos in the area we could contact? If there are, they could phone us on 07812 274 503. And they get to speak (the Filipino native tongue) Tagalog!”
