Country music festival

A COUNTRY music festival held at Pwllheli Golf Club raised over £2,000 for charity.

The fourth annual Pwllheli Country Music Weekend was held last month and featured artists such as Dafydd Iwan, John ac Alun, Ken Williams (Bach), Moniars, Tudur Wyn, Emma Marie and Dafydd Wyn and the crowd were treated to a duet by Emma and Dafydd on the Saturday night.

The weekend was once again organised by Pwllheli’s Sheila Jones who works hard year from year organising this event to raise money for charities.

Sheila said: “I really enjoy organising the weekends and raising funds for charities, but I couldn’t do it without the help of a small group of my friends to whom I’m very grateful, the artists, the local businesses who donate for auctions and raffles, the golf course at Pwllheli who kindly donate their premises free of charge for the two nights and of course all the people from far and near who come out to enjoy the music and support the weekend.”

This year Sheila shaved half her hair off on the Friday night and then the other half on Saturday night to raise money for the Children’s Wards at Ysbyty Gwynedd with a bucket collection, after witnessing this Nigel Davies the bar manager at the Golf Club also volunteered himself to have his hair shaved off, the shaving was done by Pwllheli hair stylist Sonia Russell.

To date, £2,450 has been raised for the two chosen charities being the Children’s Ward at Ysbyty Gwynedd and the Wales Air Ambulance.

And for anybody interested, the date to keep free in your diaries for next year’s Pwllheli Country Music weekend is 29 and 30 May at the golf club.
