A WOMAN from Rhayader has raised over £2,000 for three good causes close to her... bowel.
Rachael Blakeway raised £2,166 for the Bracken Trust in Llandrindod Wells, Maggie’s drop-in centre in Cheltenham and The Christie in Manchester by exhibiting a little black dress made out of left-over poo bags.
The un-used ostomy bags, which Rachael was given during her treatment for bowel cancer, were decorated by family and friends and turned in to a spectacular outfit by the 45-year-old mother-of-four.
CARAD (Rhayader Museum & Gallery) agreed to exhibit the dress, along with a ‘Pantastic Washing Line’ made up of 21 pairs of ostomy pants also decorated by friends and family, before Christmas, and money was raised at the launch of the exhibition and throughout the display period.
Rachael thanked everyone who helped raise the money, whether they bought raffle tickets, made a personal donation, attended a workshop, or bought one of her home-made decorations.
“The total raised was £2,166 so each charity got £722. Maggies and the Bracken Trust got extra on top due to private donations,” she explained.
