Sheep dog trials

THE trials were held on Wednesday, 1 August, at Llety Ifan Hen by kind permission of the Davies family.

The weather was ideal for trialling – cool and with a light breeze.

The first dog was sent out just before 8.30am and trialling continued throughout the day until shortly after 9pm.

Again this year there was a number of competitors from overseas.

The yearling ewes were mostly well behaved but proved very difficult to pen, so few runs were completed, particularly in the morning.

At the end of a very long day the judge, John George of Llwynbrain, awarded the results as follows.

National style: 1, Eirian Morgan, Aberystwyth, with Spot (lost 6 points); 2, Eirian Morgan with Nel (9); 3, Teifion Morgan, Mwnt, with Tess (13); 4, Irwel Evans, Ystrad Meurig, with Bob (13.5); 5, Dewi Jenkins, Talybont, with Joc (14); 6, I B Jones, Capel Bangor, with Tim (14.5).

South Wales style: 1, John Wheaton, Port Talbot, with Kerry (14); 2, Meik Wessendorf, Germany, with Elsa (15); 3, Meirion Williams, Welshpool, with Sue (16); 4, Dewi Jenkins with Joc and I B Jones with Bela (20).

Confined to Ceredigion: 1, Dewi Jenkins with Don (14); 2, Irwel Evans, Ystrad Meurig, with Jan (15); 3, John Price with Holly (16); 4, Dewi Jenkins with Joc (20); 5, Daniel Rees, Pontrhydfendigaid, with Spot (25); 6, Daniel Rees with Meg.

Novice National style: 1, Dewi Jenkins with Joc (14); 2, Daniel Rees with Meg (17); 3, Jane Drinkwater, Lampeter, with Kim (19).

Novice South Wales style: 1, John Wheaton with Kerry (14); 2, Meirion Williams with Sue (16); 3, Dewi Jenkins with Joc (20).

Cerdigion YFC class: Teifion Morgan with Tess (13); 2, Dewi Jenkins with Joc (14); 3, Dewi Jenkins with Moss (19).

The award for the best run before 12.30pm went to Dewi Jenkins with Don, and for the best run of the day to Eirian Morgan with Spot.
