THE next walk is scheduled for 11 August, and has been organised by Jac, Dewi and Lynda.

It is entitled the Sabrina Trail – Pumlumon Fawr via Hafren.

The original name of the river severn was Sabrina.

Named after a Roman goddess the river today has three true names.

This walk starts in the Rhydybenwch forestry plantation and follows the course of the River Severn back to its source high up on the slopes of Pumlumon Arwystli.

From here they head to the summit of Pumlumon Fawr, passing the source of the river Wye.

Benjamin Malkin stated in 1803 that Pumlumon was the most dangerous mountain in Wales on account of the boggy terrain underfoot.

He said that it should only be attempted in the company of a local guide who lives in a hovel at the foot of the mountain.

The walk will last approximately seven hours and is graded a very strenuous walk, which covers 13 miles with an ascent of 666m/2188ft.

They will meet outside Y Talbot, Tregaron at 8.30am and returns to Hafod Hotel, Devil’s Bridge afterwards

To reserve a place phone Dafydd on 07748 675798, (maximum 25).
