English Methodist Church

Clwb Cerdded/Walking Club

THE next walk is scheduled for 13 October and has been organised by Gwen/Dafydd.

The Sir Chris Bonington Trail – Pumlumon Fawr from Eisteddfa Gurig - is sponsored by Tynrhyd Retreat Devil’s Bridge and Y Talbot Tregaron.

You’d probably not consider Pumlumon Fawr as a honeymoon destination but it was here Sir Chris Bonington Spent the first night of his honeymoon in 1962.

Sir Chris is one of the world’s most accomplished mountaineers and it’s wonderful to receive his support for this trail.

The journey to the summit is a short but spectacular hike, passing old mining works and then crossing open moorland to the 2,468ft summit, the highest in the Cambrian Mountains.

They might even pass the site of a crashed and ghostly looking WWII bomber.

The walk is to last approximately three-and-a-half hours and is graded a hard to moderate walk over a distance of five miles, with an ascent of 340m/1,111ft.

The maximum number than can attend this walk is 25, so to reserve a place phone Dafydd on 07748 675798.

After the walk the club will return to the Talbot Hotel for bar meals.

Walkers to pay for bar meals themselves.

Should you wish to become a member of Clwb Cerdded Tregaron Walking Club then phone Dafydd, the secretary, on 01974 298150.

GUIDE Dogs for the Blind was the subject of the September meeting.

Paula and David Fillery, who head up Ceredigion Guide Dogs, came along to talk about the work of the organisation.

They were accompanied by two German shepherd dogs.

Both dogs had started their training but for one reason or another hadn’t quite made the grade.

They were wonderful dogs who were allowed to roam freely amongst members with no fear that anything untoward might happen!

Guide Dogs is a charity that is dependent on individual donations to continue their life-changing work.

They really enjoyed hearing about their work and had a collection to help support it.

The next meeting, ‘Driftwood art’ with Gwawr Davies, will be held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, 10 October, at 7.30pm.
