Inner Wheel Club

The September meeting of the Inner Wheel Club of Tywyn was held in the Kings Restaurant, Talyllyn Railway.

President Mair Worsey welcomed the members and thanked friends and volunteers who helped to make the Race the Train day in August possible and successful.

Some of the profit of the hard work will be shared out to local, national and overseas charities at next month’s meeting.

The following club officers were appointed for 2018/19: President – Mair Worsey; first vice president – Meg Jones; second vice president – Sian Bell; secretary – Lynda Morris; treasurer – Marjory Watmore; minutes secretary – Chris Lewis; international organiser – Jane Pearson; club correspondent – Jose Price; speakers secretary – Marie Owens.

Tywyn & District History Society

The speaker at the society’s September meeting on was Dr Quentin Deakin, who gave a well-researched and thoughtful talk, highlighting the extensive World War 2 activities in Meirionnydd, their impact on local communities and the on-going significance of this important chapter of the area’s history.

The main item of the next meeting on Monday, 8 October, will extend this theme by a panel-led discussion by local residents of personal memories of World War 2 and its aftermath.

The meeting will start at the earlier time of 7pm at the usual venue, the Baptist Church on High Street.
