Rotary Club

During December, The Rotary Club of Tywyn Santa Sleigh was once again out and about greeting residents and collecting donations for local and international charities.

The Santa Sleigh collections are a very important event in the club calendar that are eagerly awaited by young and old alike.

As in previous years it was very gratifying to see so many children out with their parents excitedly waiting in groups along the route to see the colourful and exciting sleigh on which Santa, his Elf and Rudolph warmly welcomed everyone and donated small pre-Christmas gifts to the children.

The weather in December was wet and windy causing postponement and re-scheduling of some collections.

However, despite having to cancel just one collection the club still managed to cover most of Tywyn and the surrounding villages of Bryncrug, Llanegrin, Abergynolwyn and Llwyngwril. Sadly, even after a number of attempts, the collection to Aberdyfi had to be cancelled this year because of the weather.

Despite the cancellation, The Rotary Club still managed to raise a very respectable total of £2,229.60 during the door-to-door collections and the street collections outside the Co-op and Spar supermarkets in Tywyn during the first three weeks in December.

Club president Nancy Clarke expressed her sincere thanks to everyone in the area who generously contributed to the collections and to those who helped to organise this event.

Garden club

THE Garden Club held a very enjoyable evening meeting at Tywyn Baptist Church last month watching John James prepare five wonderful Christmas arrangements. These were won by five lucky ticket holders.

The Christmas arrangement competition, judged by John James, was won by Margaret Evans, with Ann Malin second, and David Harrison third. Tea/coffee and mince pies made by Peggy Griffiths were served.

The annual post Christmas lunch is at 1pm on Sunday, 27 January at the Proper Gander, Tywyn.
