THE latest community news from Tywyn

Garden club

THE club met at the Baptist Church on Tuesday, 8 January.

The speakers for the evening were Pauline and Paul Aslin from Arthog.

Between them they gave a wonderful talk with slides about the many species of bees and in particular the keeping of bees among the trees in Arthog.

Mr Aslin gave a fascinating account of the life of a honey bee from the making of a new queen by feeding the baby drones with royal jelly and how they fly huge distances to gather nectar.

They were made to realise that bees are a very clever species and that we need them to survive.

Mrs Aslin told them how she makes honey and wax products for home use and medications using spare honey that the bees do not use themselves.

The vote of thanks was given by Angela Sheffield.

Quentin Deakin asked everyone to be sure they had made menu choices and paid money for the Merioneth Horticultural Society AGM and meal at Talyllyn Railway Wharf Café on Saturday, 9 February.

The AGM will be at 11am with coffee and biscuits, followed by lunch at 1pm.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, 12 February, at 7.30pm in the Baptist church and Joanna Houseman and members of Greener Tywyn Group will talk about working together for a more sustainable community.
