THE latest community news from Waunfawr
Women’s Institute
THE last meeting took place on Monday, 1 October, in the community hall.
There was an excellent turnout of both members and visitors, the meetings are beginning to have a real buzz about them now.
Everyone was warmly welcomed by the president, Jean Eklund, and after the usual business had been undertaken, she went on to introduce the speaker for the night, Hugh Parry.
Hugh came to Waunfawr WI a couple of years ago, bringing his impressive range of sound recording machines.
This time he gave members a vivid insight into the records and cylinders which have recorded both music and the human voice over the last century and it was fascinating to hear voices from nearly 100 years ago and to imagine, in our present digital age, what an impact these recordings must have had early in the 20th century.
The next meeting, with sparklers, will be on Monday, 5 November at 7pm in the community hall, when they will be welcoming Gay Evans, one of the Ceredigion WI advisers, who will lead them through their AGM.
