A Blaenau Ffestiniog man who had his car deliberately set on fire has said he is grateful to those who have donated towards buying him a new one.

Osian McDonnell’s car was set on fire on Thursday, 18 March. Two days later his cousin, Angela Lloyd, set up a GoFundMe page to help by Osian another car. At the time of publication, the total stands at over £700.

Osian said: “I feel hurt that someone could do this to me, and I feel very annoyed that no investigation is being done by the police. However I am very grateful to everyone who has taken their time and donated to help me buy myself another car."

Angela said: “Osian recently turned 18, and was given his trust fund money, he decided to buy himself his first car. However he has lost his car to arson and unfortunately he could not yet afford the insurance, but was saving up for it!

“We are all so upset over him and people in the community have suggested that we crowdfund in order that Osian can replace his lost car. Blaenau Ffestiniog is a very close community. It’s lovely to see when something happens here people are always willing to help in any way they can.”

A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue said: “We received a late fire call to a car fire at 3.05pm [on Thursday, 18 March] and an officer attended. The fire was thought to have been started deliberately.”

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: “The incident was reported to us at 8.30am on 18th March.

“Due to the remote location, there was no opportunity to conduct a house to house enquiry, no CCTV and no witnesses. “Unfortunately as a result of this, we have been unable to identify a suspect at this time.

“Anyone with any information should contact us on 101 quoting ref 21000172085.”
