TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved Porthmadog public servant and grandfather who has died after falling down stairs.

Ken Williams, who would have celebrated his 87th birthday next week, died after the incident at his home in Glaslyn Street last week.

Mr Williams had spent much of his life serving his community, acting as a clerk for several local councils - including Porthmadog, Llanfrothen and Beddgelert - as well as a Porthmadog town councillor until last year.

The grandfather-of-four also served as clerk for the old Dwyfor council, had been a registrar and worked in Minffordd Quarry with his father.

A much-respected and knowledgeable man, he will be missed by his family and his former colleagues.

His son, Eifion Williams, said: “He was a loving husband to his wife Margaret and looked after all her needs too.

“As Margaret wasn’t that well for a long time, most of his time was given to looking after her.

“He used to love football and cricket and every chance he could he would be off to a round of whist in the community.

“He was very independent to the last and was still driving until his last.”
