MORE signs are needed to prevent members of the public feeding seagulls in Porthmadog, claims a town councillor.
Seagulls have been an issue in the town for a number of years, with Porthmadog Town Council only calling for control orders against the birds in 2012 after receiving complaints that residents were being fouled on and waste was being strewn across the streets.
However, Cllr Jason Humphreys claims he has received complaints that members of the public are encouraging the birds by feeding them in the town by feeding them in certain areas.
In a recent town council meeting, he said: “During the nice weather, I received complaints from residents that they had seen members of the public feeding seagulls in the park on the high street and in the Llyn Bach car park.
“I do think we should write to Gwynedd Council and ask them if it’s possible to get more signs to be put in these areas to ask people to stop feeding seagulls and remind them that they can incur a fine by doing it.”
