Madam,
I write concerning Cllr Dafydd Edwards’ comments on the climate crisis in the 27 June edition of the Cambrian News.
Cllr Edwards is completely mistaken in his argument, questioning scientists’ figures on how much the sea will rise and temperatures increase, and also in his decision to vote against the amendment to make Ceredigion carbon neutral.
Yes, climate change is all over the internet. But there is a worldwide top scientific consensus too.
A graph produced by NASA shows an almost vertical line of exponential atmospheric carbon. This is undeniably anthropogenic in origin and is terrifying.
And for climate 'disputers' such as Cllr Edwards to dismiss it as internet gossip is akin to the captain of the Titanic assuring his passengers that ships list all the time.
Economic viability is a pathetic argument - there will be little to be economic about once a few meals are missed and all the extra energy in our global weather systems really gets a hold.
Those who vote on our behalf in matters of importance should avail themselves of all the facts rather than rely on innate prejudice.
Finally, and for your information, 'the end of the world is nigh' sandwich boarders were religious fanatics and were absolutely not early wolf-criers of climate catastrophe.
Yours etc, Martin Evans, Cwmrheidol.
