Madam,

Congratulations to Liz Saville Roberts, our MP, for her forceful speech in Bangor against Theresa May’s war on Syria.

Taking the decision to attack Syria is itself a complete violation of democracy. Had the decision been considered by Parliament prior to the attack it would have been condemned. After the event, Parliament has not and will not condemn it.

The attack was started that weekend, the weekend of Ms Roberts’ speech. This action was against the convention of the British constitution established a decade ago that acts of war can only be carried out with Parliamentary approval. That is why it is an illegal act under British law, where, so often, convention is what defines what is legal.

These are all reasons enough for Parliament to condemn the action.

The attack was an act of war by three countries against Syria. It was another act of destruction by the UK, France and the US, countries without legitimate interest in Syria and with no right whatsoever to involve themselves in what is, after all, a civil war.

Yours etc,

Dr. Ian MacIntyre, St John’s Hill, Barmouth.
