Madam,

It is clear that the Labour Party had a mixed election this year.

Nationally, compared with the General Election result last year, we here in Wales were one per cent up.

But compared with the 2011 Senedd election, our constituency vote as a whole was 7.6 per cent down. Carwyn Jones was held by the media to be distancing himself from Jeremy Corbyn.

Here, however, in the Dwyfor Meirionnydd constituency, the Labour Party vote only fell by a paltry 0.6 per cent. Here, the party is Corbynite, our membership having quadrupled because of the fact of his leadership. We are anti-Trident, anti-austerity and strongly egalitarian. Carwyn’s stance on recent Labour controversies has been heavily criticised by officers of the constituency party.

The candidate made no bones about his left wing politics and his pro-Corbyn anti-Tory politics. As I can testify! The conclusion I draw is that Corbynite politics of compassion and inclusion triumphed over Carwynite spin-doctor attitudes.

Yours etc

Ian MacIntyre
