Gwynedd Council has agreed a priority plan designed to ‘make a difference’ to residents’ lives.

The council has agreed on seven areas of prime concern which it says will “form the basis for it improving its services” over the next five years.

Their plan for 2023-28 identifies areas which it considers a priority. They include:

‘Tomorrow’s Gwynedd’ aimed at giving children and young people the “best possible start in life”. 

‘Prosperous Gwynedd’ which is designed to “strengthen the economy” and support people to “earn a decent wage”.

‘Homely Gwynedd’  to support  people to live in “suitable and affordable homes”.

‘A Caring Gwynedd’ will aim help residents live “full and safe lives”.

Whilst a ‘Welsh Gwynedd’ will ensure it “gives residents every possible opportunity to use the Welsh language”.

‘Green Gwynedd’ is aimed at protecting the county’s natural beauty and “responding positively” to the climate change crisis.

‘Efficient Gwynedd’ will commit to putting local people “at the heart” of everything the council does, “treat people fairly” and  ensure that the council performs “effectively and efficiently”.

“Delighted” to share the council’s vision and priorities for the next five years, council leader, Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn, said: “We have listened to their opinions, including feedback received during the Ardal Ni public consultation and information gathering exercise.

“We are committed to delivering projects that will allow us to further develop and improve the services we provide for our residents.

“Despite the current financial difficulties whereby our budgets are under huge and unprecedented pressure, the council is aiming high and will work hard to achieve the ambitions we have set out in the plan.”

The plan will be reviewed continuously, and milestones for each project will be set so that progress can be checked annually.

The projects within the plan will directly contribute to delivering national well-being goals, as set out by Welsh Government’s Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

Cllr Siencyn added: “We are confident that this plan will enable us to continue to provide quality services and support the people of Gwynedd to thrive, despite the challenges we may face in the coming years. We look forward to working with our residents to make our vision a reality.”
